Fern Takes Her Maiden Voyage

Summer slipped away overnight.
It is the morning of the first official voyage of Fern, our new motorhome. We are headed to the Olympic National Forest in Washington State.
It seems fitting that the fog has rolled in, mysteriously cloaking our lake. We are taking a journey into the rainforest, and it only seems right that the mood be set from the very start.
Less than a week ago, it was nearly 100 degrees, and the sun was bright in a crystal blue sky.
There is something comforting about looking out on this foggy morning, knowing we are off on an adventure I have imagined for years.
The Olympic Peninsula. Dense rainforests, craggy coastlines, and even reported sightings of Bigfoot. It feels as though the tone has been set for the trip ahead.
Fern is a 25-foot Class A motorhome. We have spent the last month fixing her up and making her our own: curtains, wallpaper, new comfy chairs and beds. We also bought her new tires and updated some of the technology.

Her sidekick is a little Smart Car we named Toad. She is being “towed” behind the RV, giving us a little satellite vehicle for exploring from our campsites. Larry gave her a few upgrades, too.
Speaking of satellites, we even added a Starlink Mini so we can stay connected wherever we go.
Fern is our little home away from home.
This morning, as we finish packing and handle the last-minute details, there is a sense of excitement about this new journey. Anticipation of the sights we will see, the experiences we will have, and the memories we will make together.
It reminds me that life is about living. And about following your heart.
My heart has been called to the Pacific Northwest for years and years.
And now, off we go.
Let the adventure begin.
